Milan Derbies & Cup Competitions Not Enough – Italian Media Argue That Inter Milan Appointed Simone Inzaghi To Deliver Serie A Title | OneFootball

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi may be proving himself with some results in big matches, but as long as he does not deliver the team a Serie A title, he will not have done what he was brought on to.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the coach cannot be considered a true success without the Scudetto, and that triumphs in Milan derbies and trophies from cup competitions are not enough.

Since taking over as Inter coach in the summer of 2021, Inzaghi has won the Supercoppa Italiana twice, the Coppa Italia, and reached the knockout rounds of the Champions League in both of his seasons in charge.

This is undoubtedly a sign that the 46-year-old former Lazio coach is not out of his depth at the Nerazzurri, whilst some of the statement wins that he has coached during his time in charge have been further proof of what his Inter team can be at their best.

However, the Gazzetta argue, none of this means that Inzaghi has fully fulfilled his remit.

The coach has shown that he can get Inter playing the kind of football that’s needed to win the title, but not yet demonstrated the consistency over the long haul necessary to do so.

If Inzaghi is to say that it’s “job done” at Inter, the newspaper contends, he will have to add that extra consistency and ruthlessness to pay off his project with the Serie A title that the club are clearly desperate for.
