Strahinja Pavlovic has been tipped to leave Milan while the club is looking for money to foot their Santiago Gimenez pursuit after the Fikayo Tomori deal with Juventus fell through, but he has returned to prominence in the last couple of games. He filled in for the suspended Englishman in the Champions League but was confirmed in the XI a few days later versus Parma, showing well.
The defender made his intentions clear in his post-game remarks (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“I haven’t played for ten consecutive matches, and there were a lot of rumors. However, I’m here and want to stay. Winning twice in a row is important. I’m always focused on the pitch. I fight every minute and am hungry for football. My goal is to win. That’s who I am.”
Pavlovic was quizzed about his relationship with Sergio Conceiçao.
“He has great energy and shows it on the sidelines. We have a good rapport, I speak with him a lot, and I’m confident. I’m here and will try to give my best for Milan.”
The Serb has been linked in particular to Fenerbahce and Stuttgart.
Perhaps it was simply a matter of demand and offer, but it’s not clear who ecided that he should be the one to go in the Rossoneri rearguard. He might not be the most technical or gifted center-back, but his performances have generally been adequate. His gritty character is welcome in a side that doesn’t have much of that. He fell out of favor simply because a coach who’s now been fired decided so. He’s surely been better than Tomori so far.
