Tammy Abraham insists Milan are a ‘special‘ group following Wednesday night’s nail-biting 2-1 home victory against Red Star Belgrade. The Roma loanee scored off the bench to inspire the Rossoneri to a third consecutive UEFA Champions League win for the first time since 2005.

More importantly, Abraham’s last-gasp winner keeps Milan in firm contention for a coveted top-eight finish. Paulo Fonseca’s charges head into the penultimate league phase round a point adrift of third-placed Arsenal.

After the game, Abraham praised his teammates for a resilient performance, even though it wasn’t the most impressive Milan showing this season by any stretch of the imagination.

“It seemed to be one of those games where you want to score at all costs, but the ball didn’t want to go in,” Abraham told Milan TV via MilanNews. “I believed in myself, in my team-mates. It was all about being in the right place at the right time, and fortunately for me, the ball went in, and I scored.

“I think the team must support each other not only in training, but also in the game,” the Milan hero went on. “We are an incredible group, everyone knows it, and we have to show it. We have to attack and defend as a team, be one.

“I think we will improve day by day. Today was a very important victory. In the end the most important thing was the victory, and we got it.”

Milan will return to Champions League action on January 22 with a must-win home clash against Girona.
