Milan shook off a heavy defeat away at Chelsea in midweek to register a superb 2-0 win over Juventus at San Siro on Saturday evening.
Monday morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport referred to Rossoneri boss Stefano Pioli as a ‘giant’ for his tactical tweak away from his usual 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 setup, one that allowed his side to dominate in the midfield area as they turned their fortunes around.
The boss praised his team’s mental strength to come back from the disappointment at Stamford Bridge and in particular there was a big turnaround for English defender Fikayo Tomori.
After a poor display versus his former club, Tomori scored the crucial opening goal at San Siro and Pioli pointed out how much that had meant to him.
“He has an incredible spirit and passion,” the boss told DAZN after the match. “Look how he celebrates when he scores. He’s great.”
Milan now sit just three points behind Serie A leaders Napoli and will host Chelsea at San Siro in midweek.
Meanwhile, Juventus showed that their struggles are far from over following wins over Bologna and Maccabi Haifa.
Max Allegri mentioned the word ‘fear’ multiple times in his post-match interview, and it’s clear he is struggling to get his side to perform versus stronger sides.
In fact, in their last 17 games versus Napoli, Atalanta, Villarreal, Chelsea, Benfica, PSG, Milan and Inter, Juve have won just once.
In the next three games, Juve face Maccabi Haifa for the second time, a derby encounter away at Torino and a home match with Empoli, a run which may allow Allegri to remain in his role for a while longer yet.

A thriller at the top of the table saw Udinese fight back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Atalanta.
Napoli left it late but still registered a resounding 4-1 win over Cremonese to pull clear at the top of Serie A.
Another goal from Chris Smalling saw Roma take the lead at home to Lecce, only for the visitors to peg them back. A penalty from Paulo Dybala sealed the three points.
Once one of Italy’s promising young stars, Mattia Destro has become somewhat of a journeyman in recent times, with spells at Bologna, Genoa and now Empoli.
Yet the 31-year-old came up with an incredible bicycle kick for his side in a 1-1 draw with Torino at the weekend and it’s well worth a watch.
He’s 36 years old, but Edin Džeko is still scoring important goals at the top level. His brace for Inter secured all three points against Sassuolo at the weekend, keeping the Nerazzurri in touch with the title race at the top.
Those two goals meant that the veteran striker became the oldest player to score two or more goals in a single match for Inter, overtaking the record set by Siniša Mihajlović in 2005.
