Milan are considering new options to renew Rafael Leão’s contract and one of them includes the idea of the player signing a one-year extension, Daniele Longo reports.
Leão’s contract with the Rossoneri runs until June 2024 and it has been reported that his first option is to sign a new contract with the club, with Milan offering him a €7 million per year salary.
Nevertheless, talks have stalled over how much Milan should contribute in covering Leão’s compensation to Sporting.
The Portuguese has been sentenced to pay €16.5 million to his former club as in 2019, he withdrew from the contract after fans stormed onto the training pitch and joined Ligue 1 side Lille for free before being sold to Milan for €23 million.
It has been reported that Leão’s agents are asking Milan to contribute with a big signing bonus.
Milan have rejected this proposal but in order to avoid a sale in the summer, they have taken in consideration the possibility of him signing a one-year extension and keep on with the talks over a new contract. A meeting between the parties is expected within the next 15 days.
Ted Dimvula, Leão’s lawyer and his representative in the talks with Milan, in February, made a public statement confirming that: “The player’s priority has not changed: he wants to stay at AC Milan and continue to grow and progress in this institution and this city that he loves so much”.
