Milan are in the final stages of the process of appointing a new sporting director, and it’s currently a two-man race between Fabio Paratici and Igli Tare after recent meetings between the candidates, the owner Gerry Cardinale, and his senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sky reports.
The Rossoneri courted Andrea Berta after he left Atletico Madrid, but he’s more inclined to join a Premier League side. The position has been vacant since the side parted ways with Antonio D’Ottavio. He had already been somewhat demoted since he wasn’t seeing eye-to-eye with CEO Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.
Milan would be turning to a veteran if they indeed chose between Paratici or Tare. The former worked his way up the ladder at Juventus under Giuseppe Marotta and eventually replaced the present Inter president, spending more than a decade in Turin. The Bianconeri won 19 total trophies with him at the helm. On the other end, his moves in the last couple of years generated the ‘plusvalenze’ trail, which caused a ten-point penalization. He was ousted at Tottenham also because of such a suspension.
Instead, the Albanian official worked at Lazio from 2009 to 2023, first as the coordinator of the technical area and then as a sporting director.
Not the most inspiring choices given how their previous spells ended, but any addition to their front office would be welcome considering their issues at the top in the last couple of years. Bringing in the former Juventus exec would signal that they are ready to spend, or at least get busy, on the transfer market.
