Arsenal and Manchester City clashed in a potentially title-deciding Premier League match on Wednesday evening.

Mikel Arteta, formerly assistant to Pep Guardiola at City, has led the Gunners through one of their finest seasons to date in the English top-flight.

Not since the days of Arsene Wenger has the London-based club but so close to lifting the coveted Premier League title. But a win in the encounter would see Arsenal move four points clear of the reigning champions.

Understandably, tensions were high. And that point was most evident when Arteta and City ace Kevin De Bruyne clashed in the second half.

With the scores level at 1-1, the ball left the field of play and the Belgian hurriedly pursued the ball, even reaching around his former assistant coach Arteta in a relatively forceful manner to get at it.

The two then shared a few choice words after De Bruyne retained the ball and even engaged in some minor shoving.

It was De Bruyne who had the last laugh, though, with City running out eventual 3-1 winners.

The result moves them level on points with Arsenal, although Arteta and his team do have a game in hand.

The two clubs will meet again at the Etihad in April, with tensions likely to be even higher than they were on Wednesday.

However, with Arsenal having won just two out of their previous five league matches, they will need to resurrect their current slump in form if they want to have any chance of reaching that fixture whilst still in the driving seat to secure the title.
