There’s no point denying that Mesut Özil is on the way to Fenerbahce anymore. Their official club account posted multiple pictures of him during his journey to Turkey, we’re really just waiting on the official announcement at this point.

After Arsenal’s win over Newcastle United on Monday, Mikel Arteta was asked about the deal. Though he insisted he’d save his full opinion for when it’s official, he took the opportunity to praise the German international’s contributions in North London.

“Mesut is in Turkey going through the medical that has to be completed,” Arteta confirmed. “There is still some paperwork that has to be done but it doesn’t matter – Mesut’s quality will be missed.

“He’s a very special player who has a big history in this football club and if he ends up doing the deal when it happens I will give my clear opinion on that.”

Reports suggested Özil would have signed by Monday, so we’re a little bit behind schedule. But there’s plenty of time left in the window, so there’s no real rush to iron out the fine details.

The Fenerbahce Twitter account is now hinting we should have an announcement at some point on Tuesday.

Özil will reportedly wear the number 67 until the end of the season, for reasons we explain here.
