Mike Maignan risks being sidelined for one month with a calf injury | OneFootball

Ahead of the Qatar World Cup, the defending world champions remain wounded, with a group of talented French players, including Milan’s Mike Maignan, missing through injuries.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via RMC Sport), Mike Maignan could miss a month of football due to the calf injury sustained by the Milan custodian in France’s 2-0 win over Austria on Thursday.

Earlier, it was reported that the issue could rule him out of action for the next three weeks. But the latest reports have appeared to be much more severe for the goalkeeper, who has been replaced in the French national team by Rennes’ Steve Mandanda (37).

The report claims that Maignan had pain in the left calf and will thus be unable to play their back-to-back Champions League games against Chelsea and the league fixture against Juventus next month.

The 27-year-old made the start ahead of France’s first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as the Tottenham Hotspur captain was also out with a thigh injury. With Maignan injured, Alphonse Areola came onto the field midway into the game against Austria. If that remains a hint, the West Ham United goalkeeper should cut Didier Deschamps’ starting XI against Denmark on Sunday.
