Uriel Antuna may no longer be a Chivas player, but the fall-out from his recent move to Cruz Azul continues to rumble on.

The winger stated during the week that he didn’t feel “protected” during his two-year stay with Los Rojiblancos.

However defender Miguel Ponce rejected the claim that Antuna was treated poorly at the Estadio Akron.

“It is an answer that is not very clear, sheltered by whom? By the fans, the board, by us (players),” Ponce told Fox Sports.

“For my part, I was always encouraging him. I am not going to be behind him telling him what to do, but let him know, the team-mates were always there to support him and whatever he needed.”

Ponce admitted that Chivas have failed to deliver in recent times, and promised that fans will see improvements during the 2022 Clausura.

“Chivas not only needs good players, it needs more professionals,” the 32-year-old left-back said.

“This team has talked more about what happens off the pitch and not about how important it is on the pitch.

“The players that we are and those that come have to be more professional, and we have to make the fans feel proud of their team.”

The first opportunity to do so will be on Sunday when the Guadalajara side kick off their season at home to Mazatlán.
