Following his hugely special spell at América from 2010 to 2014, where he won two Liga MX titles, Miguel Layún set sail on his European adventure.

After featuring for Watford, Porto, Sevilla, and Villarreal, Layún returned to Mexico in January 2019, albeit to Rayados of Monterrey.

Of course, this move was mainly criticised by América supporters but the 32-year-old Layún says no love was lost and he would consider returning to the club for his final years on the pitch.

However, after witnessing how América treated Paul Aguilar, he now has his doubts.

“There are always plans for the future. I am a person who likes to plan and people now know my business because I like to plan for the future,” he told Marco Claro.

“I also like to live in the moment but one has to have a path to where you want and where you would like to be, and then you enjoy what life is giving you.

“I have always expressed, for many years, the possibility of retiring at América. Of coursec it would be special.

“Upon my arrival in Monterrey, my perspective of what this club was and what the fans were… changed. But being here experiencing it, I would also love it. Either option would be ideal.

“If I see retiring at América as a very complex, especially after what just happened with Paul Aguilar, a boy who was a benchmark in América and who leaves like this, also Moisés Muñoz at the time… I think it is very complex to return to América.

“But, there is always that possibility.”

Layun featured a total of 162 times for the Águilas, contributing 18 goals and 10 assists during his four years.
