Miguel Layún has backed América to continue their upward progression under manager Santiago Solari.

The Argentine took over Las Águilas last December, leading them to an impressive showing in Guard1anes 2021 that saw them finish second in the regular season table.

Layún joined the Azulcrema in June on a six-month deal, and is confident he has made a good decision.

“It was one of the first things I asked and everyone told me ‘you are going to find a united group, they have worked a lot so that we all go in synergy, that no one goes the other way’,” the 33-year-old told TUDN.

Describing how Solari works, Layún explained: “He is someone who is very clear and the truth is that he is quite insistent in his ideas, along with the entire coaching staff.”

In the same interview, the right-sided player revealed that he was all set to join San Jose Earthquakes at the start of the year, only for Monterrey boss Javier Aguirre to convince him to stay at the Estadio BBVA.

Layún is happy things worked out as they did, as he has since returned to the club he won two league titles with between 2010 and 2014.
