On the back of América’s historic win over Necaxa on Saturday, Miguel Layún took to social media to hit back at his detractors.
The veteran right-back has been used mostly as a substitute by Azulcrema manager Fernando Ortiz this season, but has still made four starts and appeared off the bench seven times.
He has also shown his versatility, playing in a back three at Necaxa as América recovered from Facundo Batista’s early goal for the hosts.
Jonathan dos Santos and Roger Martínez hit second-half goals to see Las Águilas register a club record ninth straight league victory.
It prompted Layún to respond to fan criticism that has dogged him throughout the Apertura campaign.
“9 victories that mean history, of which, although many do not like it, I am a part,” he tweeted on his official account.
“I will leave this tweet open so that everyone can see how insane society is today.
“Dads/moms have an important job to better educate our children and be happy.”
It’s hard to understand why supporters have been so harsh on the 34-year-old given their side’s superb form of late.
América remain top of the Liga MX table, level on points with Monterrey but enjoying a better goal difference and a game in hand.
