Undoubtedly, Miguel Layún was a fundamental reason why América were able to win titles in 2013 and 2014, despite several questions being asked upon his arrival.
After captaining the side to the 2014 Apertura trophy, Layún embarked on a European adventure which saw him play with Watford, Porto, Sevilla, and Villarreal.
Last January, despite interest from Celta Vigo and AC Milan, Layún returned to Mexico to play for Monterrey and instantly won the CONCACAF Champions League and the Liga MX Apertura titles.
Now, the 32-year-old has revealed that he would like to retire either at Monterrey or back at América.
“I think I would like to retire in Monterrey or América, those would be my two most ideal options.
“But I also understand that football and life, in general, is super flexible and I don’t know how feasible that is going to be.
“I hope I can achieve it but also, on the other hand, I understand that if something happens, then moving on will be a part of this. It is what it is.”
Of course, Layún and Monterrey will take on América this Saturday in a rematch of the 2019 Apertura final.
