Miguel Layún has given a strong hint that he will remain at América for the Clausura 2023.
Reports at the weekend suggested that the veteran right-back, along with winger Jürgen Damm, had until Monday to decide to sign new contract offers from the Azulcrema.
While Damm has since put pen to paper, there has been no concrete movement on Layún’s situation.
However the player himself seems confident that both parties will reach agreement on his future.
“I enjoy thinking that I can renew with América. I enjoy thinking that new challenges can come and thinking that new things can come,” the 34-year-old said, per RÉCORD.
The former Porto and Monterrey defender, who is in his second stint with Las Águilas, admitted his brush with cancer a few years ago has contributed to his relaxed attitude.
“All this comes as a result of what I experienced with cancer. At the time the tumour was detected, I said if I don’t enjoy being on a court now, if I don’t enjoy life in general, what the hell am I doing here?”
América are scheduled to reconvene on 28 November to begin pre-season training for Clausura 2023.
