Miguel Layún was in grateful mood after he was recognised for reaching 200 senior appearances for América.

While the veteran defender did not feature in Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 Clásico Nacional win over Chivas, he was honoured beforehand at the Estadio Azteca for reaching the landmark against Santos Laguna in midweek.

“Playing 200 official matches with the club of my loves, my best dream,” the 34-year-old tweeted on Sunday.

“I want to thank God, my family for being unbreakable pillars in the best and worst moments, my friends, that hobby that has filled me with love and especially CLUB AMERICA!”

Layún spent four years with Las Águilas between 2010 and 2014 before departing to Europe for the prime years of his career.

He returned to Mexico to play for Monterrey in 2019, and then rejoined América in June 2021.
