Miguel Layún has admitted that América must learn lessons from Sunday’s 3-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Pumas in Chicago.

Two goals from Juan Dinenno and another late on from Jorge Ruvalcaba put Pumas in control at SeatGeek Stadium, with Diego Valdés getting a consolation for the Azulcrema just before the final whistle.

América struggled to break down the low block of their opponents, and veteran defender Layún warned his team-mates to expect many sides to employ this tactic against them in the 2022 Apertura.

“Today’s game was difficult for us, it was difficult for us to open the defensive block of Pumas,” the 33-year-old told TUDN.

“The two lines of the field were very close in a very low area. It will be complicated, and we are going to find a lot of those types of games in the league and we must find the formula to open them.”

Fernando Ortiz’s men are in friendly action again on Wednesday when they will face León in San Jose, California.
