Miguel Layún has 12 months remaining on his contract with América, with many believing that he will decide to hang up his boots at the end of 2022.
The 33-year-old has always claimed that his dream is to retire with the Eagles and Layún has finally broken his silence over the subject, claiming that everything will be up to how he is performing on the pitch.
“Of course, I plan on doing it. My dream would be to retire here at América. I understand that the demands here are not the same as those of other clubs.
“In other words, if I am not performing at a good level, they will retire me before I have the chance to do so.
“I still have a year left on my contract, it ends in December 2022. I have valued it. I have discussed this with Ana (his wife) and told her that I would like to retire here.
“If the contract ends (without an extension) then I am sincerely considering it. I don’t want to steal money, I would want to be in my house.
“If things go well in what I’m doing outside of football, I’m going to give myself the pleasure of retiring at a good time.
“Sportingly, you can always have a good tournament, but physically, you realise when a player is dragging.”
Layún has won a total of nine trophies in his lifetime and had the pleasure of playing a good percentage of his career in Europe.
