Miguel Herrera became the coach who ‘revived’ América when they were at their worst, so it’s no surprise that he has come out and claimed that he will never manage Chivas.
Herrera, who won four trophies in two stints at the club, never missed the Liguilla while in charge of the Mexican giants but was sacked following their loss in the Concacaf Champions League semi-finals against Major League Soccer’s LAFC.
Though Herrera is still unemployed, he has made it clear that Chivas are not and will not be in his future plans.
” Out of respect for both clubs, it would seem to me that, first of all, the Chivas fans would not accept me because of my history with América,” he said.
“I think it would be very difficult for the people of Chivas for a guy who has become as Américanist as I was to lead them.
“In addition, I would be disrespecting the fans of América, for which I am very grateful.
“He (Víctor Manuel Vucetich) has the tools necessary to be a champion and he is the ideal manager, who has won many more titles than me.”
Chivas will be in action tonight as they look for their first win of the season against a tricky Atlético San Luis side.
