The transfer of Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron to Al-Shabab has collapsed.

Despite a week of negotiations that reportedly resulted in a verbal agreement between the two clubs, the Paraguayan international opted against making the move, according to Ben Jacobs.

Al-Shabab chose not to formalise their offer for Almiron after the player opted to stay at Newcastle.

The Saudi Pro League side have already brought in Ivan Rakitic, who terminated his contract, from Sevilla this month to try and bolster the squad but Almiron will not be joining him.

His decision to remain at Newcastle could still mean there could be exits from the Magpies as the Financial Fair Play regulations have restricted the club’s transfer business.

Manager Eddie Howe admits that no new faces can come in unless one of his current stars departs.

“What we won’t do is bring a player in without losing one the other way. I think that would be impossible but all other options could happen,” Howe said.

“Keeping the squad intact and, as the manager, trying to produce a team to win games would be the one for me,” he said. “But we are guardians of the club’s future and we want to make the right decisions for the club’s future and for FFP. We don’t want to breach FFP.”
