Miguel Almirón scored a first-half brace on Tuesday night as Newcastle relatively coasted to a 3-2 victory over Championship leaders West Brom to advance to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
However, there was a moment that captured all our hearts. After Almirón’s first goal, he dedicated it to his former Atlanta United team-mate Josef Martínez, celebrating by doing half of their iconic celebration from their MLS Cup-winning days.
Martínez suffered a torn ACL over the weekend during Atlanta’s opening match of the 2020 MLS campaign, which will sideline him for the rest of the season.
It’s obvious that the two are still very, very much missing one another as Martínez celebrated scoring in the CONCACAF Champions League last month by doing his half of their fusion celebration.
You just love to see it.
