Burnley have been linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, with the Tunisian available for a departure from Old Trafford.
According to The Athletic, Burnley are interested in signing Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United, as Scott Parker looks to ensure that he will have enough midfield options during the 2024/25 campaign. It is understood that a loan deal or a permanent transfer are both options at this stage.
The link has emerged amid reports that Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge is set to leave Turf Moor, with Premier League side Fulham closing in on a deal to bring the 26-year-old back to the top flight for a fee of £25m including add-ons.
It is going to be a busy end to the transfer window for Burnley, with several players rumoured to be leaving the club, including Manuel Benson and Vitinho, while the Clarets are poised to bring in reinforcements, having been linked with players such as Jeremy Sarmiento and Joe Worrall, while Bashir Humphreys is set to join from Chelsea.
Parker will likely have anticipated a change in personnel before the end of the summer transfer window, considering the quality and quantity of players in Burnley's squad, but it will be interesting to see if it has an impact on the team after their outstanding start to the season.
Football League World's Burnley fan pundit, Nathan Rogers, believes that signing Hannibal would be a good move for the Clarets, and has suggested that signing him permanently could be beneficial long-term.
"The Hannibal links are welcome, if I'm honest," said Rogers.
"He has played against us previously, for Birmingham and Manchester United, and both times he was their standout player, really aggressive, tenacious, he was good on the ball, he liked to get a tackle in.
"He got around the pitch really well, and he gave us problems no end, so I think if we can get that deal done, and get him into the midfield, I think it would suit us really well.
"Bringing him in as a midfielder might free up Josh Brownhill to push a bit further forward, I know he's been getting some joy this season going forward, so Hannibal coming in would be great, whether it's a loan move or a permanent. "I think he would be a great addition, and he adds to the current philosophy at the club where we buy young talent, develop them, nurture them, and then hopefully send them on their way for a profit.
"Hannibal links, I'm very happy with that, no problems there for me."
If Hannibal does join Burnley before the end of the summer transfer window, he will be no stranger to the second tier of English football.
He made 38 Championship appearances during a loan spell at Birmingham City during the 2022/23 season.
The 21-year-old also has Premier League and Champions League experience, as well as playing in La Liga while on loan at Sevilla last season.
Hannibal has plenty of time to develop further, but also has the necessary experience, and ability, to be an immediate success at Burnley. As Rogers explained, if the Clarets can get a deal done, he could turn out to be an excellent signing.
