Manchester City overcame an early setback to win 4-2 away to Aston Villa in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Villa went ahead in the sixth minute, moments after they had survived giving the ball away in their own box, with a Vivienne Miedema shot deflected wide.
Chasity Grant collected a ball from Sarah Mayling and got away from Laia Aleixandri, advancing on goal to fire past Ayaka Yamashita.
City’s Jill Roord dragged a clear goal-scoring chance wide but they were level before the half-hour mark, when Miedema tucked away a stray pass from Dan Turner.
Six minutes later and Miedema had turned the game around, finding the top corner from outside the box.
Seconds after the interval a Kirsty Hanson cross forced an own-goal equaliser by Aleixandri, only for City to strike back twice in eight minutes.
Mary Fowler’s deflected effort beat Sabrina D’Angelo, then Kerstin Casparij ball into the box was finished by Jess Park.
City now trail leaders Chelsea by six points and have played a game more , while Villa remain eighth on goal-difference ahead of Everton.
