Preston North End’s incoming transfer business kicked off last week with the permanent arrival of Stoke City defender Liam Lindsay following a relatively successful loan spell last season.

The Potters outcast managed to save himself from his exile at the bet365 Stadium and played 13 times for the Lilywhites last season, and his signing is set to be the first of many at Deepdale in the coming weeks.

North End need to do some strengthening to better their 13th placed finish in the Championship last season, and they’ve been linked with plenty of names ahead of the new campaign.

Let’s take a look at two developments that are likely to happen in the coming weeks as Frankie McAvoy seeks new arrivals as permanent head coach.

Sepp’s return?

It’s no secret that North End have been trying to secure a number of their loanees from last season for the 2021-22 campaign, and it looks like two more will be arriving very soon.

They’re believed to have struck a verbal agreement with Leicester City for Danish stopper Daniel Iversen, who was incredibly impressive between the sticks in the second half of the season but that seems like it will happen in July once the Foxes’ other goalkeepers arrive back from Euro 2020.

And they’re also waiting on an answer from Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg, who was another player who enjoyed a fruitful time at PNE on loan last season.

The Dutch teenager played the majority of his games at right-back instead of his natural centre-back position but was still impressive, and he’s expected to make a decision on whether or not he returns to the Lilywhites once he is back in England following his summer holidays, according to LancsLive.

Liverpool have already approved the deal – it’s now up to the 19-year-old to decide if he wants to play a full season for North End.

Brown to sign?

It’s not just defenders that North End are in the market for, with Rotherham wing-back Matthew Olosunde one name to be linked with an incoming, but attacking arrivals are being sought after as well.

And PNE could help resurrect the career of forgotten Chelsea man Izzy Brown, who has been released by the Blues after eight years at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has been on multiple loan deals for the majority of that but last season wasn’t so good at Sheffield Wednesday, where he struggled to get a regular run of games together.

North End though are interested in doing a deal for the free agent – the Lancashire Post say that Brown’s representatives contacted the club first and with PNE perhaps lacking somewhat of a creative spark at times last season, a fully-fit and motivated Brown could do big things.
