After signing for 2.Liga side Motor Lublin two weeks ago, former Polish international Jakub Kosecki has taken an unusual decision in regards to his squad number for the spring round.
The 31-year-old former Ekstraklasa and Puchar Polski winner will play for his new club wearing… the number 1 on his back.
Obviously the number 1 jersey is usually reserved for a goalkeeper, but given that Motor’s current custodians wear the number 15, 39 and 51 shirts, the ex-Legia Warsaw winger opted to don the unorthodox choice of number.
Historically, other outfield players to wear the number 1 jersey include Osvaldo Ardiles for Argentina and Ruud Geels for Netherlands – although these numbers were given alphabetically rather than through standard numbering conventions.
Kosecki signed for Motor earlier in the transfer window, having failed to make an impact in a six-month spell with Ekstraklasa side Cracovia. Prior to that, he had spent time at Śląsk Wrocław, German side SV Sandhausen and Turkish club Adana Demirspor Kulubu since leaving Legia in 2017.
