Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Salih Özcan, who becomes the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Having already completed deals for Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi, the club confirmed the arrival of Özcan on a four-year contract on Monday. According to reports, Dortmund activated a release clause in Özcan’s contract and will pay a fee of around €8 million, though some reports claim he will cost them even less.

The combative central midfielder impressed as hometown club Köln qualified for Europe this season.

“FC Köln is my hometown club, I have so much to be thankful for. There are very few clubs I could have left my city for,” he said.

“The energy of Borussia Dortmund, which you can really feel, and the chance to regularly play in the Champions League led to my decision.”

Özcan reportedly had his medical last Thursday and the shock exit of Dortmund head coach Marco Rose on Friday has clearly not impacted the deal.
