L’Équipe are reporting that Middlesbrough and Sunderland are amongst five teams interested in taking Stade Rennais forward Matthis Abline (20) on loan this season.
Following a six-month loan at AJ Auxerre at the end of last season, Abline played a prominent role in Rennes’ pre-season. The France youth international scored two goals during the club’s pre-season preparations, however, his short-term future seemingly doesn’t lie with the high-flying Ligue 1 side.
According to L’Équipe, Abline is set for a further loan. It had been thought that the French forward would be sold, but ultimately, Rennes have indicated that they are counting on him for the future. Abline’s current contract expires in 2025.
Championship sides Middlesbrough and Sunderland, Ligue 1 duo Stade Brestois and Stade de Reims, as well as Bundesliga side Freiburg, are all interested in taking Abline on loan. The Rennes forward must quickly make a decision, and the playing time on offer will constitute a major factor in his next destination.
