Michniewicz linked with Aberdeen job | OneFootball

Reports in Scotland have claimed that former Poland national team coach Czesław Michniewicz has put his name forward for the vacant position at Scottish Premier League club Aberdeen.

Scotland’s Press & Journal reported on Tuesday that Michniewicz’s long-time assistant, Kamil Potrykus, had commented on the coach’s suitability for the role.

“If Aberdeen is interested, we’d love to come to the meeting“, Potrykus told the paper. “I think that would be something good. Aberdeen is a good club with a fantastic history and amazing coaches like Sir Alex Ferguson. It’s a huge inspiration, so there will be space to talk if the club is interested. Michniewicz is a person who would like to meet and discuss everything. We will find a time and place to talk if the opportunity arises. The Scottish league is strong, it would be a good place to promote and be successful.”

52-year-old Michniewicz has been without a job since his dismissal as Poland coach at the end of December, amidst a series of scandals and poor performances which clouded his side’s progression to the knock-out round of the World Cup for the first time in 36 years. He led the national team for just under 12 months.

Prior to his time at Selekcjoner, Michniewicz was released as Legia Warszawa coach after guiding his Polish champions to the bottom of the Ekstraklasa – despite Europa League wins against Leicester City and Spartak Moscow. He also previously led Zagłębie Lubin to the Ekstraklasa title in 2007, and won the Polish Cup with Lech Poznań.

Meanwhile, his time at Lech has often come under scrutiny due to his alleged links with one of the ringleaders of corruption in Polish football – although these have always been denied and never proven.

Aberdeen currently sit in 7th position in the SPL, with 29 points from 23 games; and were recently knocked out of the Scottish Cup by lower league club Darvel.
