The Green-Whites’ coaching staff have made a decision in the goalkeeping department

Michael Zetterer will remain SV Werder Bremen’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025/26 campaign. Head coach Horst Steffen confirmed the decision on Tuesday.

“We’ve used the past six weeks of pre-season, including in training and in friendlies, to make a clear assessment of our goalkeeping options. Now, we have come to the conclusion that Michael Zetterer will be our ‘number one’ again during the coming season,” explained Werder boss Steffen. “Overall, he impressed us with his skill set and made himself the frontrunner. We’re certain that he will be a reliable presence at the back for our team during the challenges ahead.” Steffen added: “We have another top-class goalkeeper in Mio. He has accepted this – definitely tough –  decision in a professional manner.”
