With just five days before the Copa Libertadores final against Palmeiras, Michael has given Renato Gaúcho an incredible selection headache for Uruguay.
One of Flamengo’s plethora of talented attackers will have to be absent from the starting XI and Michael has certainly made his case to be included.
Following their win over Internacional, Michael described how Renato Gaúcho has been vital to his career’s upward trajectory.
“His tactical point of view is the simplest. He tells me what I have to do, asks me to stay open, move, not be blocked, position myself better, finish better… That’s simple.
“But I’ve always done that and throughout my career, I’ve tried to do what I do today. We need confidence and encouragement.
“That’s why I’ve always talked about Filipe, Diego, and Gerson. They showed me what to do and encouraged me. All we need is trust.”
Michael is Flamengo’s top scorer in the Brasileirão with 13 goals and also contributed with four assists. He is only behind Hulk, from Atlético-MG, among the league’s top scorers.
