After an impressive pre-season with Manchester City, it seems that Phil Foden is destined for stardom.

Thanks to fantastic management from Pep Guardiola and a number of City routs, Foden has made a whopping 23 first-team appearances this season.

On Tuesday, the 18-year-old made his sixth appearance with the England U-21s and Michael Owen believes Foden has all the makings of a certain star.

“It appears as though he has the ball on a string, it’s all in one movement,” Owen said before Germany’s 2-1 win over the England U-21s.

“He doesn’t even look at the ball a lot of the time he just runs with it.

“I was going to mention a name then but it’ll probably make headlines but Zinedine Zidane was exactly like that.

“When he used to run it was like the ball was constant within his control.

“Most people run then push it, run then push it again.

“It all seems to be in one with him. I know he’s a different type of player but it’s like he was born to be with the ball.

“He’s a lovely player, lovely to watch with silky skills.”

Lukas Nmecha, who is currently at Preston North End on loan from Manchester City, made his debut with the Germany U-21s, coming on as a 60th-minute substitute.
