Manchester United ended their Premier League campaign with an unconvincing 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion over the weekend.

Unconvincing perhaps sums of Man United’s season best, as the Red Devils consistently delivered inconsistent performances, leading to an eighth-place finish in the league.

Heading into the FA Cup final against Manchester City, not many fans are convinced the Red Devils will be able to pose any serious threat at Wembley.

The same term can be used to describe individual performance of many United stars, including Jonny Evans.

Signed as a back-up option last summer on a one-year deal, the 36-year-old became a regular feature in Erik ten Hag’s side due to several injuries. Evans has ended up making 29 appearances in all competitions, which could become 30 on Saturday.

While it is impressive that he managed to make himself available for many crucial outings, his defending left a lot to be desired. Considering his age, it would not be fair to point too many fingers in his direction either.

As such, it remains uncertain if Evans will be handed a new contract by the club’s hierarchy, who are keen to refresh their backline.

However, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has been convinced by what he saw from Evans all season and believes his star player will have plenty of suitors during the summer transfer window should United decide to release him.

O’Neill told reporters (via Manchester World): “I think Jonny has done himself no harm this season, as he has been an important player for Manchester United in a difficult season, a team that has had a lot of challenges.”

“There are a lot of managers out there that would love to have Jonny Evans at their club,” he added.

Whether or not the Old Trafford outfit extend Evans’ contract, United must be delighted with their decision to rope in the former Leicester City man on a free transfer last summer.

This summer, United have another opportunity to make a brilliant signing on a free transfer. Recently, the Peoples Person relayed a report claiming they are preparing to hijack Newcastle’s move for Tosin Adarabioyo.

The English centre-back, who is set to depart Fulham, is admired by the club’s new technical director, Jason Wilcox.
