Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise (21) has suffered a hamstring injury during France U21’s 1-0 victory against Norway on Sunday night, manager Sylvain Ripoll has confirmed.
Olise had a mixed evening. The Crystal Palace midfielder, competing in his first tournament with Les Bleuets, scored the only goal of the game, which puts France within one point of topping the group in the U21 European Championships, sealing progression to the knockout stage of the tournament.
However, just minutes after scoring, Olise was through again, This time, he couldn’t finish and also injured himself in the process. The Crystal Palace midfielder immediately signalled to be substituted and was in visible pain and unable to put any pressure on his left leg. It certainly looks as though Olise’s presence in the competition could be over, and depending on the impending medical examinations, his preparation for the upcoming Premier League season could also be compromised.
“It’s an injury to the hamstring in his left thigh. It’s a tough blow. It’s a problem for the rest of the competition because we can’t replace him. We’ll find out in the coming hours how long he will be out for,” said Ripoll in a post-match interview transcribed by L’Équipe.
