The goalkeeper is said to have rejected an offer of a new deal at Home Park this summer
The speculation surrounding Michael Cooper’s future continues to circulate this summer, with the Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper seemingly set to depart Home Park in the coming weeks, as Sheffiled United and Crystal Palace continue to lurk.
The 24-year-old is said to have rejected the chance to extend his deal in Devon, meaning he has entered the final 12 months of his time at his boyhood club, with Argyle likely to cash in on him as a result.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that the Greens are holding out for £3 million for one of their prized assets this summer, with the Blades and the Eagles two of the clubs that have shown interest in his services.
With that in mind, we took a look at how much the shot-stopper is earning a week with Argyle, with Capology giving us the best estimates of player salaries across the EFL.
According to the salary site, Cooper was coining in £3,500 a week for Argyle in the previous campaign, which equates to £182,000 a year.
Argyle had been working to up his wages in recent weeks, with the Pilgrims said to have offered their number one a contract that would have made him the highest earner at the club.
From Capology’s estimates, that would have put him on a salary above Bali Mumba - who is currently the highest earner - with the former Norwich City star said to be earning £15,000 a week in Devon.
But the 24-year-old is said to have turned down that deal as he looks set to head to pastures new in the coming weeks, and more than likely up his wages by a hefty amount as a result.
As a comparison, Sheffield United goalkeeping pair Adam Davies and Ivo Grbic are said to be earning £25,000 a week at Bramall Lane, and if Cooper is offered similar, his wages would be over seven times as much if he moved to Yorkshire.
Even that pales in comparison to the glovesmen at Selhurst Park, with Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson said to be earning £100,000 every seven days, while Sam Johnstone rakes in £40,000 over the same time period.
As already mentioned, Capology estimates Bali Mumba to be the highest earner at Home Park, with Adam Forshaw also said to be earning £15,000 a week since his arrival in January.
In what may be of some surprise, Morgan Whittaker [pictured] is said to be earning half of that pair, with the former Swansea City man ‘only’ earning £7,500 from Monday to Sunday, which is less than fellow frontman Mustapha Bundu, who sees £10,000 enter his bank account on a weekly basis.
Whittaker is said to earn the same amount as goalkeeper Conor Hazard, while Ryan Hardie sits lower down the list with a seven-day salary of £5,000.
Captain Joe Edwards is also further down the list, with the former Walsall man reportedly earning £3,077 a week, which equates to £160,000 a year, while the likes of Ben Waine and Saxon Earley sit bottom of the list, earning just £1,000 a week.
