Manchester United are preparing to host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Although set to see new interim manager Ralf Rangnick take charge in the coming days, the Red Devils will be led out against the Gunners by stand-in boss Michael Carrick.

Since the club opted to part ways with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Carrick has overseen a 2-0 victory against Villarreal in the Champions League and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

However, despite taking a hard-fought point away from Stamford Bridge last weekend, the Red Devils’ latest draw appears to have come at a price after Carrick revealed regular right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked up an untimely injury.

Speaking ahead of his side’s match against Arsenal, Carrick, who spoke to the club’s media team, said: “Nemanja [Matic] has picked up a little niggle. He’s felt his hamstring so he’s out.

“Aaron [Wan-Bissaka], Hudson-Odoi stood on his hand so he’s in a fair bit of pain. It’s touch and go so he didn’t make it for today.

“Harry [Maguire]’s back in. Eric [Bailly] did so well, but it’s a decision I had to make. [We’re] just being careful with Luke [Shaw], assessing day by day. Hopefully, he won’t be too far away.”

In place of both Matic and Wan-Bissaka, Carrick has opted to include a familiar midfield duo of Scott McTominay and Fred, with Portuguese attacking full-back Diogo Dalot picking up a rare start.

The Red Devils’ home tie against Arsenal is scheduled to kick off at 8.15p.m (UK time) and will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime.
