Mexico City is currently experiencing a third wave of Covid-19 that, according to rumours, would force the closure of stadiums at the beginning of the tournament.

However, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, ruled out the closure of stadiums for the start of the 2021 Apertura.

“We do not aim to close any activity, not social or cultural,” she said.

This means that the men’s and women’s teams of Pumas, América and Cruz Azul will be able to have fans in their respective venues, with Las Águilas Femenil being the first to do so.

The current Mexican champions will debut against Mazatlán on July 26th while Pumas will do so on July 25th. América must wait until the 31st to host Necaxa in their second match of the season.
