Metz’s Moroccan attacking midfielder Amine Bassi (25) is set to leave the Ligue 2 side and to join MLS outfit Houston Dynamo, L’Equipe are reporting. Bassi has only played four Ligue 2 games out of a possible nineteen with the Moselle team, who are currently third-placed in the Ligue 2 standings. The 25-year-old joined Metz from arch-rivals Nancy on a four-year deal in 2021. However, with Les Grenats he has never quite reached the level he showcased with Nancy. He was then loaned to Championship side Barnsley and registered two goals and five assists in twelve matches for the Tykes, but he failed to save them from a League One relegation.

Having returned in Metz last April, Bassi failed to kick on following his spell with Barnsley as newly-named Romanian boss Laszlo Bölöni didn’t rely on him. Bassi already came close to moving to the United States when MLS side Chicago Fire agreed a €3m move with Nancy in 2018. The midfielder, though, thought he was too young, at 20, to embark on such a journey. Now at 25, Bassi looks set to finally play MLS football with Houston Dynamo. The Texas side have reportedly signed him on a two-and-a-half year deal.
