Pierre Dréossi, director of football at FC Metz, is confident that Georges Mikautadze will succeed at Ajax. The Georgian striker has struggled to find form in Amsterdam following his €16m move from Metz. The forward has featured just five times in the Eredivisie, with three of those appearances made as a substitute.

Last season, Mikautadze scored 23 goals and provided eight assists in 37 Ligue 2 appearances, as Metz secured promotion back to the top flight. Due to the high price tag, Ajax supporters hold high expectations. Now, under the management of new head coach John Van ‘t Schip, Georges Mikautadze may be given the opportunity to excel.

In a conversation with Ajax Showtime, Pierre Dréossi insisted that Mikautadze will succeed at Ajax. ‘As a striker, he can reach a high level. I’m sure he can score more than 20 goals in a whole season,’ the director of football said. ‘I’m not crazy, he can really do that. Provided he plays in his best position. He has the qualities to become a very good and special striker. I don’t know from the wing or behind the striker.’

The Frenchman continued with a rather reassuring statement from an Ajax point of view, ‘He chose Ajax because it is a good club with a good philosophy. He is very smart. Believe me: Ajax will sell him for a lot of money in a few years. Don’t worry.’
