Lionel Messi left Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 and is now over a year into his stint with Inter Miami. The Argentine’s stint with the South Florida-based club is the complete opposite experience than what happened in the French capital.

Recently, former Toulouse and current Charlotte FC player Brecht Dejaegere noted what Messi thought about playing in Paris.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has not hidden that his arrival at PSG wasn’t planned. After the financial issues at FC Barcelona caused him to continue his career elsewhere, Messi didn’t have an ideal experience in Paris.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham shared a funny story during an interview with Rio Ferdinand about Messi’s first training sessions to highlight his transition from PSG to the United States.

“His first day at the training center. He arrived at 6:50 in the morning, [and] there was no one there except the guy who was there to open the door for him,” Beckham said (h/t Le10Sport). “The team practiced at 10 a.m., but he arrived three hours early to get ready.

“He was in the weight room, warming up and doing all the things you would expect from a young player and he still does. At his age and with everything he’s accomplished in his career, you would expect him to be a little more of a dilettante, but no, he’s a winner.”

Messi and the Parisians could cross paths next year at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Moreover, it would be good for interest in the tournament should the veteran attacker play against Inter Miami, who will have the opening match in Miami on June 15, 2025.
