Former AC Milan winger Junior Messias has admitted that he will always be a fan of the club after winning the Serie A title under Stefano Pioli’s guidance.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com), Messias talked about his past at Milan and his time at his current club Genoa, who are enjoying a largely successful return to the top flight of Italian football.

The Brazilian was an important rotational part of the 2021/22 team that won the Serie A title, beating Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium in style to be sure of the title. He and Alexis Saelemaekers shared the job on the right wing but both ended up leaving the club in the summer of 2023.

As Messias explained, he will never be able to forget that season and it has made him a Milan fan for the rest of his life. It is also the club where he scored his first and perhaps only Champions League goal.

“I came to win a Scudetto with AC Milan, and I will always remain a Rossoneri fan. At AC Milan and with Pioli I learned a lot and improved a lot. It’s a season I’ll never forget,” he said.

Messias now plays for Genoa, joining to try and ensure that their first season back in Serie A does not end in another relegation.

He explained how he is enjoying life in the northwest of Italy and his family are settling in very well too: “The people of Genoa have welcomed me very well, I am excited and every day the pride of playing for this club grows. I am beginning to know the history of Genoa and it excites me. It’s a story of passion which I’m also experiencing. I’ve been well received here and I think I’ll move to Genoa from Turin. I live in Nervi with my wife and my two sons Emanuele and Miguel who are at the football school.”
