Modern football well and truly peaked when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were in La Liga.
While at Barcelona and Real Madrid, the two superstars absolutely dominated the Spanish top-flight and it was just incredible to watch.
Pretty much every single week, one or both were on the scoresheet and in 2011/12, they produced numbers that are normally only ever achieved on FIFA.
Messi finished that campaign with 50 league goals to his name, while Ronaldo was close behind in the Pichichi standings with 46 goals.
Those stats are otherworldly and after digesting them, it’ll come as no shock to learn that they both rank very highly in our list featuring the best minutes-per-goal records since the start of 1999/2000.
Just so you’re aware, only stats from one of Europe’s top five leagues count for a spot on the list, which means a player can feature twice.
And Ronaldo does, along with one other player…
25. David Trezeguet (Serie A) – 123 goals | 127 mins-per-goal
24. Roy Makaay (La Liga) – 79 goals | 126 mins-per-goal
23. Ciro Immobile (Serie A) – 181 goals | 126 mins-per-goal
22. Patrik Schick (Bundesliga) – 40 goals | 125 mins-per-goal
21. Romelu Lukaku (Serie A) – 47 goals | 125 mins-per-goal
20. Radamel Falcao (La Liga) – 65 goals | 125 mins-per-goal
19. Andre Silva (Bundesliga) – 50 goals | 124 mins-per-goal
18. Sonny Anderson (Ligue 1) – 71 goals | 123 mins-per-goal
17. Thierry Henry (Premier League) – 175 goals | 122 mins-per-goal
16. Ronaldo Nazario (La Liga) – 82 goals | 121 mins-per-goal
15. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Bundesliga) – 98 goals | 116 mins-per-goal
14. Radamel Falcao (La Liga) – 57 goals | 114 mins-per-goal
13. Christian Vieri (Serie A) – 114 goals | 114 mins-per-goal
12. Luis Suarez (La Liga) – 176 goals | 114 mins-per-goal
11. Neymar (Ligue 1) – 67 goals | 113 mins-per-goal
10. Gonzalo Higuain (La Liga) – 107 goals | 112 mins-per-goal
9. Edinson Cavani (Ligue 1) – 138 goals | 109 mins-per-goal
8. Sergio Aguero (Premier League) – 184 goals | 108 mins-per-goal
7. Cristiano Ronaldo (Serie A) – 81 goals | 104 mins-per-goal
6. Kylian Mbappe (Ligue 1) – 129 goals | 100 mins-per-goal
5. Robert Lewandowski (Bundesliga) – 310 goals | 99 mins-per-goal
4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Ligue 1) – 113 goals | 91 mins-per-goal
3. Lionel Messi (La Liga) – 474 goals | 89 mins-per-goal
2. Erling Haaland (Bundesliga) – 58 goals | 88 mins-per-goal
Ronaldo’s record in La Liga is comfortably the best and the fact he also takes seventh spot on the list after his goalscoring antics in Serie A with Juventus is quite remarkable.
Falcao is the other player to join the Manchester United forward in making the cut twice, a stern reminder that the Colombian is an all-time great.
