Yes, that’s right, Messi could actually be up for grabs in a matter of months as clubs will be permitted to approach the superstar to secure a pre-contract agreement.
Barcelona club President Joan Laporte spoke earlier this summer of his ambitions to bring Messi back to Camp Nou, saying per The Daily Mirror:
“I have known Messi since he was a kid and I love Leo. I feel in moral debt to Messi. He’s the best player in our history and I will do my best in order to ensure he can have the best ending of his career with a Barca shirt on.
“I would like to bring him back. It will not be easy, but I think with the correct strategy we could do it.
“I think Messi has been the most important player in our history. During a long period of success, he was the leader. He was the one who excited our supporters.
“We will do our best to have Messi ending his career at Barcelona and being applauded by everyone.”
Well, Mr. Laporte that could be difficult with Barca’s current financial difficulties, and would no doubt require Messi take an enormous pay cut if any deal was to happen.
But we won’t rule it out just yet. And as highlighted in a graphic below which was created by Transfermarkt, the Argentinian is currently the third most valuable player that could well become a free agent this year.
Check out the other nine players and there expected market values below.
10. N’Golo Kante (31) – €40m9. Jorginho (30) – €40m 8. Jose Gaya (27) – €40m=6. Thomas Lemar (26) – €40m=6. Marco Asensio (26) €40m5. Jan Oblak (29) – €45m4. Youri Tielemans (25) – €45m3. Lionel Messi (35) – €50m2. Marcus Rashford (24) – €60m1. Milan Skriniar (27) – €65m
So, it looks like it could be an interesting football season with so many big names potentially set to be on the move.
Skriniar and Rashford are the only two that prove more valuable than Messi, though, with them both being roughly 10 years his junior.
Which just proves how incredible the Argentinian baller really is.
