As of late, many have tabbed Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer to ever play the sport, especially following his 2021 Ballon d’Or win. For some others, Messi was already considered to them as the best player in football history.

Still, for the Paris Saint-Germain forward, he is not much intrigued with engaging in the talk that he indeed is the best footballer of all-time, which he opened up about to France Football (via Le10Sport).

“I never said I’m the best in history nor do I try to push that perception myself,” Messi said. “For me, being considered by others as one of the best in history is more than enough. It’s something I would never have imagined. It’s something that doesn’t interest me, it doesn’t change anything whether I’m considered the best or not. And I never wanted to be.”

Messi sure does have the individual accolades and team trophy wins to make the case that he is the most prolific football player of all-time. From his seven Ballon d’Or wins to the recent triumph in the 2021 Copa America tournament, he has accomplished much in his career with club and country.

The Argentine forward could possibly bolster his career resume if he can lead PSG to a UEFA Champions League win later this season, which would be the club’s first such victory in its storied history.
