Lionel Messi is a step closer to leaving Barcelona after events over the weekend.

El Mundo has been heavily criticised for publishing details of Messi's current contract - including the total amount of €555m the Argentine is taking home for the length of the deal.

The story has come from a leak, with accusations the source is from inside the club.

And El Mundo doubled down yesterday, despite the criticism, and remained steadfast. They have now published a second part of the deal, which includes a stunning €39m loyalty bonus.

The lump sum is due Messi in July - immediately upon the expiration of the contract.

Significantly, the Argentine will take home the bonus, even if he leaves for another club.

Marca says Messi, with his deal to expire in June, is upset with his terms being made public and is now a step closer to leaving.

The Barca captain feels a sense of betrayal by the leak and is struggling to see himself staying when his deal expires at the end of this season.
