A different kind of football took centre stage on Sunday, with Super Bowl LIX plastered on televisions in the United States.

As one of the most significant sports events in the world, a surplus of professional athletes were in attendance to watch the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.

Inter Miami star Lionel Messi made headlines as he entered the building, while FIFA president Gianni Infantino was also at the big event.

Fellow Inter Miami stars Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez later caught up with Messi in the stands.

Meanwhile, Atlético de Madrid stars Antoine Griezmann and Koke also made the trip to the USA one day after drawing the Madrid derby 1-1 with Real Madrid.

Other European clubs and teams also played up the event via social media, with plenty of eyes worldwide staying up late to watch the game.
