According to French media, Algerian right winger Mehdi Merghem is preparing for a return to European pitches after a brief stint with USM Alger, also known as “Sûstara.”

According to journalist Nabil Djellit, as reported on his official X account, Merghem is expected to leave USM Alger during the summer transfer window to join Portuguese side AVS Futebol SAD, competing in the Primeira Liga.The French-Algerian journalist highlights that the forward will be reunited in Portugal with his former coach José Mota, who previously managed him at Varzim, thus increasing the odds of success in this new European chapter.Currently, Merghem is representing Algeria’s local national team in the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025) and has helped secure a place in the quarterfinals after finishing second in Group C.It’s worth recalling that Mehdi Merghem joined USM Alger during the winter transfer window and his contract with the Algerian club runs until the end of 2027.
