Bolton Wanderers have a lot of celebrity supporters for a team that is in the third tier of English football.

Bolton are far from the previous years of Premier League football, and, as recently as the 2020/21 season, they were in League Two. Now the Lancashire side are fighting to win promotion back to the Championship, where they haven't been since the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite the harder times that the club have gone through over the last decade or so, Wanderers still manage to attract big crowds.

It should be no wonder that, among those tens of thousands of fans, there are a few famous faces who like to get to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Here are some of Bolton's celebrity supporters - all of whom will be hoping to see Ian Evatt's side promoted back to the Championship this term.

Farnworth native Peter Kay is arguably the most famous comedian in the U.K. He's the star of programmes like Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, and more. His tour that spanned across 2010 and 2011 sold 1.2 million tickets, which broke the Guinness World Record for most sold for a stand-up comedy tour.

Kay supports his local team, as does his comedic partner in crime.

Paddy McGuinness, who is a former presenter of Top Gear and Take Me Out, is one of the other co-stars of Phoneix Nights and Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere. Alongside his comedic adventures with Kay, they share a love of the Wanderers.

The 50-year-old has made many more footballing appearances than Kay has though. He's represented England many times for Soccer Aid. The presenter was in goal for his country at the most recent Soccer Aid charity match, where they lost 4-2 to the World XI.

Amir Khan

Ex-world champion boxer Amir Khan held the unified light-welterweight world championships from 2009-2012. He competed at the 2004 Olympics, as a 17-year-old, and took home a silver medal, making him the country's youngest Olympic boxing medalist. The following year, he was named by ESPN as their prospect of the year.

Khan grew up in Bolton and went to the area's Community College, as well as attending Smithills School.

He's been very open about his support for the Wanderers, and he proclaimed at the start of last season that the club meant the world to him.

Vernon Kay

Another TV personality from Bolton who supports Wanderers is Vernon Kay.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter has been an avid fan of the club for years, and he's been very open about the ups and downs that come with following the North West outfit.

Kay is also set to host the club's 2023/24 awards and will be hoping that there's more silverware to admire than just the usual end of season trophies.

Bolton have had a lot of brilliant comedians, and a lot of them support the Wanderers.

Among them is Stu Francis, who is best known for being the lead presenter on a children's TV programme called Crackerjack. He was also a presenter on CiTV in the 1980s.

In 2017, the then 69-year-old told the Bolton News that he still tried to get to Bolton games as much as possible.
