Manchester United are edging ever closer to completing the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with talkSPORT’s Alex Crook confirming that the winger is set to undergo a medical at Carrington next week. The move, described by several sources as a “dream” for the player, is gaining serious momentum with multiple reports indicating an agreement has finally been struck between the two Premier League clubs.
Crook posted on X: “Bryan Mbeumo medical at #MUFC expected to take place next week. With @JacobsBen @talkSPORT.” That update adds to what trusted names across the football media landscape have been saying all week, with Fabrizio Romano confirming Mbeumo’s clear intentions.
“He loves Brentford, he has a fantastic relationship with all the people at the club, but he has been clear in telling them that going to Manchester United for him is a dream move,” Romano explained. “He would like to go to Manchester United as soon as possible.”
It has been a summer of statement moves from Manchester United. After finishing a dismal 15th in the Premier League and narrowly missing out on a European trophy following a 1-0 defeat in the Europa League final to Spurs, Ruben Amorim and Jason Wilcox are wasting no time in reshaping the squad. The signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves was already a step in the right direction, but Mbeumo’s impending arrival feels even more decisive.
Reports suggest the final fee for Mbeumo will be £60 million up front, with bonuses potentially taking the package to £65 million. That’s a significant outlay, but the calibre of the player reflects it.
Sebastien Bassong, speaking to BBC World Service, summed it up perfectly: “A very, very dangerous player who is always on the move and is very resilient to go and hurt people.”
Former Red Devil Rio Ferdinand also lavished praise on the Brentford forward, highlighting just how high his stock is in the footballing world:“If they get Mbeumo, I’ll be very happy. He wants to come, I know it. His stats over the last three seasons in the Premier League are up there, by the way, goals and assists, goal chances, ridiculous.”
This points to Mbeumo not only being a dangerous attacking threat but also a consistent one. His productivity, work ethic and adaptability make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s high-octane, two-number-10 system. It’s also telling that United have beaten competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who were keen on the Cameroon international as well.
With Cunha expected to operate as one of the dual playmakers behind the striker, Mbeumo could offer the perfect balance on the right side of attack, particularly in transition. He brings pace, directness and a natural eye for goal, a trio of traits United have sorely lacked in recent seasons.
Graeme Bailey told United in Focus: “Mbeumo is the first major victory of the Jason Wilcox era. Yes, Matheus Cunha was a good deal to get done, but United really have seen off interest to get Mbeumo.”
This deal isn’t just about replacing a position, it’s about elevating the club’s attacking potential to a level fitting of its ambitions.
As a Manchester United supporter, this news is absolutely massive. Bryan Mbeumo has been tearing it up for Brentford and is exactly the kind of player we need right now. Quick, aggressive, direct and fearless – he reminds me of the players we had in our best days. The fact he’s desperate to join us speaks volumes. You want players who don’t just come for the pay cheque but dream of wearing the shirt.
And let’s be honest, our last season was a complete disaster. Fifteenth in the league and no Champions League? We needed a reaction. First Cunha, now Mbeumo – that’s a serious rebuild with intent. Amorim has clearly got a plan, and Jason Wilcox is executing it brilliantly so far.
Also, seeing Spurs try to hijack the move and fail? That’s just the cherry on top. We’re still a huge club and this kind of signing reminds the league of that.
Next week’s medical can’t come soon enough. Let’s get this one over the line and start looking like Manchester United again.
