According to the Peterborough Telegraph, 22-year-old’s situation has been complicated by the ownership potentially changing hands at Sheffield United.

The Blades have been linked with a move for the wing-back, but have reportedly been put off by his price tag.

Burrows was a key player for the Posh last season as the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship.

He featured 45 times in the regular season, contributing an impressive six goals and 14 assists from the left flank (all stats from Fbref).

Sheffield United are currently the subject of a takeover proposal, which has complicated the situation surrounding their interest in Burrows.

It has been claimed that current owner Prince Abdullah is seeking investment, but intends to keep a stake in the club going forward amid interest from a US consortium.

Sheffield United have struggled financially in recent years, so will likely have a limited budget to work with in the transfer market until an agreement can be reached with an investor.

Peterborough have declined to comment on the situation surrounding Burrows, indicating an agreement might not yet have been reached with Sheffield United on a transfer.

It is believed that a seven-figure sum is being demanded by the League One club to part ways with their captain.

Any deal involving Sheffield United may have to wait until there is a resolution with the ongoing takeover process, which has no immediate timetable.

Peterborough reportedly turned down a lucrative offer for Burrows during the previous transfer window in January.

The Posh held onto their star man as they chased a top two finish in the third division, narrowly missing out on promotion by ultimately coming fourth.

A play-off semi-final loss to Oxford United consigned the club to another year in League One.

Harrison Burrows’ importance to Peterborough

Burrows has come through the ranks of the Peterborough academy system, and has gone on to become a key part of Darren Ferguson’s squad.

He has cemented himself as a consistent presence in the last few seasons, and this year went from strength to strength to become one of League One’s top talents.

The 22-year-old came second in the league’s assist charts from left wing-back, with 14 to his name.

Given his importance to the team, it could take as much as £4-5 million to convince Peterborough to part ways with the player this summer, with his contract running until 2025.

If Sheffield United want to get active in the transfer market, then this takeover deal needs to be finalised quickly.

While these deals can take time, the longer it drags on the more time it gives rivals to get ahead in the race to sign key targets this summer.

Someone like Burrows would be a great addition to the Blades’ squad, but they could miss out on this move if they don’t receive outside investment.

Burrows’ performances indicate he is ready for the step up to the Championship, and Peterborough should be looking to cash in due to his expiring contract next year.
