As we approach the end of the season the chances of Carlo Ancelotti leaving Real Madrid are growing, with AC Milan and Roma on alert.

As SportMediaset report, being the head coach of Real Madrid can be a constant battle. The expectation is always continue winning, to lift trophies continuously. Even if Ancelotti has done it many times, there is no mercy: he must do it again, again and again.

Gratitude is not part of Florentino Perez’s qualities and so Ancelotti – a man who has won three Champions Leagues with Los Blancos – will be forced to say goodbye if he ends the season empty-handed.

In the event that he were to recover in LaLiga and win the title (Barcelona are currently four points away), and also come back against Arsenal in the return leg (after a 3-0 first leg defeat), Carletto could stay in his place.

The possible replacement

Some sources in Spain believe that he will leave regardless, also because at certain moments of the game at the Emirates it did not seem that the Real players were paying particular attention to him.

Thinking the worst, Perez has already prepared himself by evaluating other candidates. The hot name is still Xabi Alonso, the former Real Madrid midfield star and the architect of the Bayer Leverkusen miracle.

He has already postponed the moment of his arrival in Madrid after staying at Leverkusen for this season, but this time he would go without too many problems. Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth is also popular, given the job he is doing.

Where Ancelotti may go

It is inevitable, in the case of Ancelotti’s farewell, to think about the future of one of the most successful coaches in the history of football, holder of the record for Champions Leagues lifted to the sky and titles won in the top five European leagues.

There have been a lot of rumours regarding the Brazilian national team and while it would be a beautiful crowning achievement for his career to win the World Cup, there are internal obstacles from those who cannot conceive of the Seleçao being led by a foreign coach.

So the ‘romantic’ suggestion remains standing, that of a return to Serie A at the helm of the clubs where he played and loved so much: Roma or Milan. Both are looking for a coach and happy to think of him on their bench.

Given that Ancelotti has experienced almost everything that football can give already, he could decide to ‘downsize’ his demands, economically and in terms of prestige, going for a job that would satisfy his heart.
